Basic UVGI FAQ
What are UVGI treatments and what do they do?
UVGI stands for Ultra Violet Germicidal Irradiation. We bring UVC technology to you, bathing your spaces in UVC light which neutralizes bacteria and viruses making them unable to reproduce or spread.
Is UVGI safe?
Because of the potency of our treatment, no people or pets can be in the spaces during treatment. However your spaces are completely safe after the treatment. UVGI has been used for decades to sanitize in healthcare, food & beverage industries, water process, and more to rid our spaces of viruses and bacteria. It is simply light; but a spectrum of light that we can use to kill harmful viruses and bacteria!
How long will it take?
It is critical to get the light source close to your surfaces long enough to let the energy neutralize the targeted viruses or bacteria. We have an array of equipment that we bring to your site and at the energy levels we use, that typically means 20 min to blow out a 15' x 15' room. While we are waiting for our stationary units to do their work, we use handheld units to clean smaller spaces like restrooms, drinking fountains, toy bins, handles, and small objects.
Do I have to do this more than once?
Bacteria, viruses, and mold can be brought into a space by people, animals, or other objects. We recommend establishing a normal routine of UVGI treatments right before or after your busiest times of the week or month, to ensure your spaces are completely cleared out and safe before the next busy time. This is the same idea you follow with your normal cleaning, except this could be considered a DEEP cleaning event. If in doubt, start with more cleaning events and we can adjust as needed.
Does this replace my normal cleaning procedures?
UVGI treatment has been proven to kill 99% of targeted organisms with proper exposure, but you still need to clean with your normal physical or chemical cleaning processes. Experts recommend this multi-layered approach to ensure fully clean areas. BOTH are important and necessary.
